Because the higher slab rate applies to all additional units in that bracket. For example, going from 300 to 310 units means those 10 extra units are charged at Rs. 25.45 instead of Rs. 20.10.
Monitor your meter reading mid-month. If you are close to a slab boundary, reduce AC usage, switch off unused appliances, and shift heavy loads to off-peak hours.
The slab-based tariff system applies to residential consumers. Commercial and industrial connections have different rate structures, often with demand-based charges.
