FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the late payment surcharge rate?

Most DISCOs apply a late payment surcharge (LPS) of approximately 5–10% of the total bill amount if payment is not made by the due date. Some DISCOs may also add daily compounding.

Is there a grace period after the due date?

Generally no. The surcharge applies from the day after the due date. However, some DISCOs may have a short processing window. It is safest to pay before or on the due date.

Can the late payment surcharge be waived?

Under normal circumstances, no. However, if there is a billing error that caused the delay, you may be able to dispute it through your DISCO's complaint process.

Does the surcharge compound over multiple months?

Yes. Unpaid surcharges from one month carry over as arrears and can accumulate. It is important to clear any pending amount as soon as possible to prevent growing charges.

What happens if I don't pay for several months?

Your DISCO may issue a disconnection notice, and accumulated arrears plus surcharges will be added to future bills. Eventual disconnection and reconnection charges may apply.
